Where to visit in Japan
Tokyo(東京)
- In the city: Daikanyama(代官山)/ Shinuya(渋谷)/Shinjuku(新宿)/ Ginza(銀座)/ Ropponki(六本木)-midtown [Party place]/Tokyo station and the Palace
- Tokyo tower/ Sky tree /night view in Shinjuku- Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (Free entry)
- Tsukiji fish market(築地)
- T.Y. Harbor Brewery [Take the monorail and enjoy the fresh beer in town]
- Karuizawa(軽井澤)- Ski resort is just outside the station with the shopping outlet, the slope is really easy, but the view isn’t that amazing compare to the high mountain ones (still very nice)
- Galayuzawa(湯澤)- One of the best ski place in Tokyo area
- Nikko(日光)- Nice view, temple and Onsen(hot spring)
- Yokohama(横浜)
- Kamakura(鐮倉)
- Hakone(箱根) Onsen town with mountain Fuji –join the five lake tour to see the beautiful snow mountain
Kyoto(京都)- Try to rent a
traditional Kimono and walk on the street to feel traditional Japan!
- Kinkakuji(金閣寺)
- Fushimi Inari-taisha(伏見稲荷大社)
- Kiyomizu-dera(清水寺)
- Hakuba Happoone(白馬-八方尾根) – Best ski location and fantastic bar and English service/ but I was the only Asian in the bar (That’s because Japanese don’t go to bar)
- Hida takayama(飛騨高山) – Amazing town with traditional Japanese village look, you might feel like we are still in in the 17th century
- Shiragawago(合掌村 ) – Village in between mountains with special housing style
- Yamanouchi snow monkey park – The monkeys are enjoying the nature hot spring in the snowing season
Hokkaido(北海道)
- Sapporo(札幌)
- Noboribetsu(登別) - The steam is amazing especially if it's snowing in the same time
- Snow festival in Feb ( but I actually don’t really recommend it…Ski there is a lot better :)
- Ski place: Teine/Kiroro/Niseko
- Otaru(小樽)
What you should try
Food
- Ton kōtsu rāmen (とんこつラーメン): My favourite type of noodle in Japan
- Sashimi(刺身), sushi(すし) – I know you know sushi, but try to order it as aburi(炙り) which means grill a bit on the very surface – I recommend fat salmon aburi is the best! You should not miss it.
- Kaiten sushi(回転寿司): Similar sushi belt like in Darwin, but the sitting arrangement is different and qulity is much better [Recommend: sushi-hanamaru]
- Okonomiyaki(お好み焼き): Same idea as Tepanyaki, but people in Japan are eating Okonomiyaki rather than Tepanyaki
- Izakaya(居酒屋): The literal translation is “Drinking room/house”. Japanese don’t really enjoy going to a bar but they visit Izakauya as much as they can. [Recommend: All you can drink for 2 hours for only $Aud 25-30 dollars]
Onsen
Hot spring, public bath. It’s amazing if you go to the
outdoor one when it’s snowing.
Reminds: you will have to be completed naked with strangers
cuz they want to keep the water clean, not to be contaminated with any fiber.
Summer time:
Okinawa islands
There’s lot more to see, enjoy! J
